Dog Aggression Newport Beach

[Episode 4] Why Dog Training Isn’t One Size Fit’s All

Most struggling dog owners make the mistake of thinking that Obedience or an Obedience Class will solve every dog problem. They end up waisting time and money while their dog get worse because they didn’t pick the right category for their problem or solution.   Depending your dogs age and the cause of their underlying problem, the type of training you chose should differ.

Have you even been frustrated or embarrassed when your dog barks and lunges at other dogs and people while on a leash? Sometimes it can be easy to think that something is wrong with your dog, that they’re being bad. You might try to solve the problem by focusing on keeping them from barking by saying, “no bark” “sit” or “leave it.” But that won’t work long term, if it works at all, because you’re only addressing the symptom, not the cause.

Most people focus on the symptom not the cause of the problem.

If you want to be effective and spend less time training your dog and more time enjoying him, then you have to know which category your problem fits into first.

In this episode of the Naughty Dog Podcast, you’ll learn

  • What socialize is and is not,
  • When a Manners or Obedience will help and when hit won’t,  and
  • What behavior modification is and how it helps specific problems that the other two categories don’t cover.

Leave me a comment, or send me a DM on instagram @allabouttrainingdogs, and let me know what type of training you think your dog needs.

IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN

  • The 3 categories of dog training
  • Why puppy socialization is preventative and not reactive training
  • What manners/obedience training should be used for
  • Why behavior modification is the most common form of training

Types of Dog Training

People often say, “training didn’t work for my dog” or, even worse, “positive reinforcement” didn’t work for my dog, AND that’s usually because you picked the wrong category for the wrong problem.

Dogs, just like people, are very unique. They each have their own set of fears and anxieties, and it is up to us to help put them at ease. So, what type of dog training does your dog need?

  • Puppy Socialization
  • Manner/Obedience Training
  • Behavior Modification

Listen to this Episode of the Naughty Dog Podcast to learn where you need to start to get a well behaved dog that you can take anywhere.
