[Episode 44]
Why I Don’t Use Treats To Train Dogs
The other day, I posted a video on social media with a loose leash walking exercise, and someone commented and said, my dog would throw up if she ate that many treats. And my response was, I’m not using treats. What you heard was right. I don’t use treats to train dogs and I only use positive reinforcement. That’s right. One of the biggest mistakes that dog owners make is focusing on the wrong thing and what this person saw when they made this comment was they thought they saw a bunch of treats, but I wasn’t using any treats. In this episode of the Naughty Dog Podcast, I’m going explain why I don’t recommend using treats and what you should use instead.
In this episode you will learn:
-
Why I never use treats.
-
Why you should reward your dog.
-
How other trainers, non-dog trainers, train other animals, which is exactly what you should do.
-
How do we, as humans, reward ourselves.
-
The only 2 ways to train your dog.
